Befriender Scheme
We help people with a learning disability with an emphasis on providing a system of support and opportunities which enables them to develop friendships and to access amenities in the community.
The aim of the Befriender Scheme is to reduce the risk of social isolation and to increase the confidence and self-esteem of people with a learning disability and to make a tangible difference to people’s lives by organizing a range of social and leisure activities on a one to one and on a group basis. We have a planning group composed of members who put forward ideas for the things they would like to do. Programmes are produced every three months so that people can choose which ones they would like to come to.
Programmes can include:-
– Regular coffee mornings and pub nights
– Trips out
– Visits to the cinema
– Bingo
– Ten pin bowling
– Meals in a local restaurant
Where we can we try to provide transport to our activities so that everyone has the chance to join in.
